Attached are resources for students that are interested in exploring HCBU's or Historically Black Colleges and Universities.  There are about 104 current HCBU's in America and below are the ones located in Georgia.
  • Morehouse School of Medicine. Located in Atlanta, 10 majors. (private)
  • Clark Atlanta University. Located in Atlanta, 58 majors. (Private)
  • Spelman College. Located in Atlanta, 33 majors. (Private)
  • Albany State University. ... (Public University)
  • Interdenominational Theological Center. ... (Private)
  • Savannah State University. ... (Public University)
  • Fort Valley State University. ... (Public University)
  • Morehouse College. (Private)
  • Paine College (Private)
I listed which ones are private and public, as your HOPE/ZELL Miller Scholarships pay out at different rates between private and public institutions.

You can apply to all participating HBCU's by using a platform similar to Common App, but it is called commonblackcollegeapp.com.  You complete only one application, and then can push it out to as many participating colleges as you wish. There are about 67 participating HCBU's on this platform and you pay a one time fee of 20$ and can push out as many applications as you like for that one time fee.

As always, visiting colleges is a vital part of making your decision on which college will be the best fit for you. The truth is, there are many schools you will be able to thrive in, so visit as many as you can and then be able to make the best decision for you.

Please let me know if you ever want to set up a time to discuss options and learn more about these platforms.
Don't forget, Seniors, that FAFSA opens up October 1st and the earlier you apply for FAFSA, the more opportunities you have to financially plan your college decisions. You can complete FAFSA, even if you haven't already applied/or been accepted to a college yet.

August 9, 2022 – State School Superintendent Richard Woods seeks students in grades 10-12 to serve on his 2022-2023 Student Advisory Council. These students will meet with Superintendent Woods to discuss the impact of state policies in the classroom and other education-related issues. They will serve as the Superintendent's ambassadors to their respective schools.
Applicants must be enrolled in a Georgia public high school (including charter schools) for the 2022-2023 school year as a sophomore, junior, or senior. Virtual learning students are still considered enrolled. The Student Advisory Council will meet four times in person during the school year; meeting dates are listed in the application.
“Each year, as I make decisions that impact students across the state, my Student Advisory Council serves as an irreplaceable resource," Superintendent Woods said. “Meeting and learning about each council member and seeking their feedback, opinions, and perspectives allows insight for all Georgia Department of Education leadership and staff to make the best possible policy choices."

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:
Click here for the 2022-2023 Student Advisory Council application. Applications must be submitted by September 9, 2022, at 5 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted.
Students in grades 10-12 enrolled in a public high school (including charter schools and virtual students) are eligible to apply.
Selected students will be contacted via email. All students may visit gadoe.org/studentadvisory on October 11, 2022, at 10 a.m. to determine if they have been selected.
Please note that we typically receive hundreds more applications than we can accept. Not being selected for the Student Advisory Council does not mean the student's application did not meet qualifications.
